Fair Game

Just finished reading the latest book by Patricia Briggs, Fair Game which is an Alpha & Omega novel. I enjoyed it and liked that she mentioned some of the other characters she has created for her universe (Mercy is still healing) which makes it seem more solid. That 'verse had a major change come about at the end which will definitely have repercussions in further novels. Can't wait to read what she comes up with next.

In Red, With Pearls

I didn't have to wait for next week to read "In Red, With Pearls" in Down These Strange Streets edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois; I found it today in my local Barnes & Noble. This time PB didn't create new characters but spun off Kyle Brooks and Warren Smith from her Mercy Thompson books with a first (I think) appearance of a zombie in her 'verse. I enjoyed all three stories but I think I enjoyed "Gray" the most. Would love to see a novel dealing with what could be a very unusual menage a trois.

Fairy Gifts

OMG PB is on a roll. Today I read "Fairy Gifts" in Naked City edited by Ellen Datlow and now I want these two original characters to have their own novel too. I love the twisty ending and what seems to the beginning of a beautiful friendship (if not something deeper). I don't know how she does it but I just adore the characters Patricia dreams up and I want more. Now I have to wait until next week for "In Red, With Pearls" in Down These Strange Streets edited by George R. R. Martin and Gardner Dozois and next spring for the next Mercy Thompson.

I just finished Patricia Brigg's short story "Gray" in "Home Improvement: Undead Edition" edited by Charlaine Harris and Toni L. P. Kelner. I truly enjoyed the way the story unfolded bit by bit to its conclusion and hope one day PB will use the characters in a novel of their own the way she did with the short story "Alpha and Omega".

ETA: On rereading this I realize I neglected to state that these are new characters unrelated to either the Mercy books or the Alpha and Omega series though they do apparently exist in the same 'verse.

Looking for Mercy Thompson players

I do post here occasionally so I think this is still allowed, but feel free to delete it if it violates the rules? We'd really love to see some book characters in the Mitternacht Society and reserves have just opened. The game starts on the 22nd. You have to adjust for the gameplay but the characters can definitely fit into the universe.

Mercy Thompson Blood Bound

Tri-Cities in Best-Selling Urban Fantasy Series (w/videos)

Hello all! The Tri-City Hearald has run an article about Patty and the Mercy Thompson series!

By Michelle Dupler, Herald staff writer

"Be careful walking along the Columbia River on a clear, moonlit night.

There just might be a werewolf, a vampire, a witch or even a river monster lurking nearby.

But for those occasions when the supernatural creeps into the homes and onto the streets of Kennewick or Richland, the Tri-Cities also has its very own version of a superheroine -- Mercedes Thompson, the tough, sexy, tattooed, shapeshifting Volkswagen mechanic featured by novelist Patricia Briggs in her best-selling book series."

Read more here!

There are some details about the upcoming River Marked (I hope she includes a references to She Who Watches), her upcoming book tour (which launches from the Hastings in Richland, appropriately enough), as well as the news that she has been invited to Comic-Con International as a guest.

Mercy Thompson Blood Bound

Patrica Briggs is a Professional Guest at Radcon 2011

For those of you who don't live in the Tri-Cities and I thought I'd share with you all a little tidbit.

Patty is almost always a professional guest, if not a guest of honor, at Radcon, the Tri-Cities very own Fantasy/Sci-Fi convention.

Radcon is this weekend. Now, I've never gone, but mostly because I allot my con budget to Sakura-con in Seattle.

Anyway, Patty is participating in a number of panels: Future of Education, The Urban Monster, Why I Write, What is it All About?, Making a Living With Fiction, The Formidable Woman, and a Pitching Workshop. And to my knowledge, she does this pretty much every year now that she's living in the Tri-Cities again.

For what it's worth, the con does attract people from all over the country, and the hotel where it's held is right down the street from the airport. For anyone who truly loves the Mercy Thompson series and would actually want to come and visit the Tri-Cities (admittedly during the cold and brown season), Radcon is a fairly decent reason to do just that. And you might get a chance to meet Patty herself.

Mercy Thompson comics!

I just finished reading Moon Called 1-3... confused? I’m reading the graphic renditions of the novel that’s being put out by Dyamite. You can read more about this here. The artwork is beautiful!

I was talking to mercy_angel_09 about this yesterday and she mentioned a post would be appropriate.

Flurry, A Mercy Thompson Fanfic

A little late-night fun in the snow.
Author's Notes:
Guess what! It's snowing in the Tri-Cities. Before Thanksgiving, even! This is a big flipping deal, for the record. (If you're curious, the earliest we've ever gotten snow was before Halloween back when I was in elementary school. No, we will not go into how long ago that was.) Because it's so pretty and white and I can't seem to focus on NaNo for more than ten minutes at a time, I wrote this fun drabble. Enjoy!

Mercy Fanmix

Salutations, all! I'm brand-new to this community but have been a Mercy fan for years. I recently posted a Mercy-verse fanmix at fanmix;but it's not getting much love there, so I thought it might be more appreciated here. Please enjoy!

Subject: Mercy/Adam/Samuel triangle, with some Stefan thrown in for good measure.
Title: pack / not pack
Warnings: Major spoilers for Silver Borne.
Notes: Songs about Mercy and her relationships with two screwed-up werewolves and the prince of Morally Grey.
Songs available individually or in zip. Some individuals are megaupload. Sorry; mediafire didn't like those files. And please pardon the pedestrian artwork; me and Paint can only do so much.

Iron & Wine, Skillet, Abney Park and Kill Hannah, this wayCollapse )

Autumn Moon, A Mercy Thompson Fanfic

Title: Autumn Moon
Author: mercy_angel_09
Rating: K
Words:Characters: Adam, Mercy, Jessie, Ben, Warren, and the rest of the pack as back ground characters.
Pairings: Adam/Mercy, but it's not central to the plot
Summary: Kitchens should always smell good. Like baking bread or chocolate chip cookies. Sadly, Adam's kitchen has developed its own odor.
Author's Note: It's the Autumnal Equinox tonight! I can barely see the Harvest Moon from my dining room window, which is actually a lot better than I thought I would get. It's raining today, which is sort of weird for the Tri-Cities at this time of year. Normally we're cool but still sunny. Anyway, thinking about all these different things, I decided to write this.

Notes from the Mod

Just a couple of notes from your (woefully inactive) moderator!

1. Some spam was just posted to the community; it appeared to be some kind of video that re-directed viewers to a site containing adult material. I deleted and marked it as spam as soon as I noticed it, but you have my apologies if you experienced this. And as a word of warning: I've observed the same video posted in several other comms as well, by several different users (pamelahunt310 and kelsiemanning), so be vigilant while watching videos today!

2. On a more positive note, does any of you frequent deviantart? By using the keywords "mercy thompson" or similar while searching you can find a surprisingly substantial amount of art posted to that site. You may also follow this feed for the most recent contributions: http://backend.deviantart.com/rss.xml?q=sort:time mercy thompson&type=deviation&offset=0
Unfortunately, not all your results will be relevant to our interests, but I still find the feed handy;)

3. Finally, I repeat the info provided in the community profile/user info - fanworks, discussions etc. related to the other books set in the Mercy 'verse, the Alpha and Omega series, are MORE THAN WELCOME here. I'm not as familiar with that series as with the Mercy books, so I won't be able to contribute much there, but the community is equally open to both series.

River marked

So the new Mercy book is River Marked. It's going to be released January 25, 2011. Dan Dos Santos is doing the art again, he released it a couple days ago on his site. I'll put the image under a cut below. I am really excited about this book!! No one knows what it is about yet, but from the cover I think we'll get a great story dealing with Mercy's Indian side.

River Marked cover image (sorta big)Collapse )

I love his covers so much!! Tor (publisher) did an article about Mr. Dos Santos and the model he uses for the cover, a girl named Jamie.
